Mossenson Galleries Subiaco Relaunch

The Mossenson Galleries is delighted to announce the re-opening of their Subiaco gallery at 115 Hay Street, following eight months of extensive renovations. The new gallery will be launched with Djapul, an exhibition of recent sculptures and paintings on bark from the artists of Milingimbi Art and Culture, Milingimbi NT. Senator Alan Eggleston will launch the exhibition and the new gallery at 6pm on Thursday 2 August, 2007.

The re-opening of the Subiaco space inaugurates a new era for the Mossenson Galleries, which has been operating in Perth since 1993. Known since its inception as Indigenart, the gallery has been renamed the Mossenson Galleries to reflect its broadening reach into non-Indigenous art. Indigenart remains the name of the business specialising in sourcing and commissioning work, and the gallery continues to represent many of Australia’s most compelling and challenging Indigenous artists.

The Mossenson Galleries exhibits many of Australia’s leading Indigenous artists, and is also focused on developing and promoting the works of exciting emerging artists. Since 1993, exhibited artists have included Shane Pickett, Jody Broun, Bardayal ‘Lofty’ Nadjamerrek, Rover Thomas, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Emily Kame Kngwarreye and Lorraine Connelly-Northey. The gallery has also held the first solo exhibitions of Ngarra, Samuel Namundja, Kalarriya ‘Jimmy’ Namarnyilk, Timothy Wulanjbirr, Gabriel Maralngurra and Tali Tali Pompey. Indigenart has exhibited widely internationally in Europe, Asia, the United States and Africa.

The Mossenson Galleries is particularly pleased that Senator Alan Eggleston will launch the new gallery. As part of his role as Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Eggleston recently delivered the much anticipated report on Australia’s Indigenous visual arts and craft sector, ‘Indigenous Art – Securing the Future’. Senator Eggleston’s diligence and judiciousness in researching and producing the report has been much praised, particularly in light of the complexity of the issues involved. It is an honour to have the Senator officiate at the opening.
